UNREALISTIC BEAUTY STANDARDS

"You are more powerful than you know; you are beautiful just as you are."

- Melissa Etheridge

We all have come across the "unrealistic" or rather "ideal" benchmarks of beauty all over social media or imposed by society or to be frank, caught up in our own heads.
How one should/shouldn't look, and wear is all dictated by the tastes of our beloved society.
Someone who pars with them is considered "beautiful" and someone who doesn't, isn't.

  • WHAT IS BEAUTY?

Beauty is the feeling of confidence, poise, and panache in your own skin. Beauty is all about embracing your flaws, holding your head up high in front of the mirror, and being proud of what you see.

It surely isn't what society wants you to be.

  • WHAT ARE SOME OF THE MOST BIZZARE SOCIETAL BEAUTY STANDARDS?

The most eccentric ones I've come across have to be how girls or even boys are told to be dressed.
No short skirts, no visible shoulders, no visible midriffs, basically covering every inch of your body except your face for them to literally judge the book by its cover.
Even for boys for that matter, what the hell does it mean by dressing like a man? Suits? Tuxes? What??!!

It is absolutely fascinating to see how society reacts when you have your hair in a fun color, tattoos on your skin, or piercings on your body.
Why do they care? Why do they blame our parents for not teaching us any manners? Well, that's food for thought.

This is vexatious and disheartening as to why someone would think that. It is the leading cause of body dysmorphia and inferiority complex in us teenagers as if our struggles weren't enough already.

I'd say one thing which is so tragic to hear but words hurt. They do you can't deny it. You will be left with yourself in despair after someone mocking for merely your appearance one fine day when you really don't need to hear something rather negative.

  • WHAT ARE  SOME OF THE NEGATIVE EFFECTS OF SOCIAL MEDIA ??
Okay, I know it's effortless to look at someone's photo on any social platform and think oh my god I can never be like that. But, you need to acknowledge that someone felt beautiful at that moment and thus decided to share their joy with the world. You can be that person too. In fact, you are that person. You don't need to fit in some societal mold to look or feel beautiful. You are beautiful as you are. No one can take that away from you.

It is worth noting that people have developed negative thoughts about themselves, and have had mental breakdowns, and it's perfectly normal to feel that way, in the end, we're all humans.

Growing up we were very well acquainted with dolls and their appearances. Barbie was branded as the icon of beauty. But now as we're getting older and the society is evolving, we have more inclusivity and positivity towards the once-believed-now-estranged beauty norms.

Outer beauty is superficial and it's the inner beauty that counts. Your personality reflects your true magnificence
which in fact will be expressed in your looks.
You are no matter what, no matter who says what
YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL.
Repeat that 3 times in front of the mirror now.
